Leaf site opens on Coulter Street
Old Saybrook Public Works has opened the Coulter Street leaf site and set curbside leaf pickup for Nov. 9 through Dec. 9, with specific rules on bagging.
The Town of Old Saybrook announced Oct. 23 that residents can begin bringing leaves to the old landfill site at the end of Coulter Street.
The site, which opened that day, accepts loose leaves or leaves bagged in biodegradable paper bags. Leaves in plastic bags must be emptied out before leaving the site. Public Works will keep the gate open as long as visitors follow the site's rules and regulations. Anyone who sees illegal dumping there is asked to call the Old Saybrook Police Department at (860) 395-3142.
Separately, curbside leaf pickup in town is scheduled from Nov. 9 through Dec. 9. Town trucks will circulate through Old Saybrook during that period to collect leaves left at the curb.
Residents are asked to bag leaves in biodegradable paper bags, available at local retail and hardware stores, and to keep the bags free of sticks, grass clippings or brush. Bags should be secured before being set out by the road. Public Works emphasized that grass clippings, brush, or leaves in plastic or overstuffed bags will not be picked up under any circumstances.
The announcement was signed by William Claffey, director of Old Saybrook Public Works.
